Because we strongly believe in its project, we decided to support the activities of African Clean Energy. In Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond, African Clean Energy is the producer of a solar biomass energy system: an advanced cookstove which reduces smoke emissions to negligible levels. It is among the cleanest and most high-tech stoves currently available, providing clean cooking with a range of biomass fuels as well as offering solar electricity for mobile phone charging and LED lighting.
- Today, three billion people worldwide are cooking on open fires or using dirty and dangerous fuels. There are a huge number of negative impacts attributable to these practices: indoor air pollution contributes to 4 million deaths every year*, more than HIV/AIDS and Malaria combined, and disproportionately affects women and children.
- Cooksmoke is responsible for environmental degradation from greenhouse gas emissions as well as deforestation.
- For people without access to modern energy sources cooking and lighting fuel can take up a large portion of their income, increasing poverty and limiting opportunities for development.
